what do we need here in wise county? i don't know of anyone in the system who would be qualified, so that will mean bringing in someone from outside.
are they likely to suggest the same thing, consolidation? or will the school board even hire someone who even remotely speaks of consolidation?
we need the healing process to begin as soon as possible, but we need the search to be extensive to get the right person. from what i hear, we need someone who is a people person to help calm the seas.
In my opinion, the school board needs to hire someone who is more of a people person. Someone who is open, communicates well and provides reasons for their decisions and doesn't back into corners when there is the enevitable backlash.
Fact is, with the way costs and numbers are, some form of consolidation is going to have to happen. I think a well thought out plan, will get the majority of the people backing it, even if they don't like it, most people can see a good deal or a better bargain. Show a cost analsysis with details, and explain why its better to close some schools and combine some schools. Most people seem to be sort of accepting of the idea of new schools being built that will combine 1 or more schools, it was the combining of 2 into 1 existing that seemed to blow the roof on.
You will never convince everybody to go one way or the other but a good qualified investigation, with time taken, a process that is on-going will at least prepare people for it.
What we've got here is failure to communicate. Some men you just can't reach, so you get what we had here last week which is the way he wants it. Well, he gets it.

yeah but he ready to retire from what i've heard. interim means just that, he is serving in the role until someone else can be found.
I agree Rocketer. Hopefully it will be someone who can work with all. And things will be better laid out and not done in such haste.
To me the people realize there is problems and a need to fix those problems.
But not the way it has been approached.
Hopefully as Merlin said. A new start and new beginnings. And this time maybe things will be done better.
I think so, but he will only serve as such until a new person can be found. He will simply manage the day-to-day operations so the schools can continue to function a normally as possible. I doubt that anything of significance will be done until a permanent replacement is selected.
......and I thought truth was universal. Silly me......
